Yet another Soldier Beetle appeared in our garden. It showed up right after winter and it is therefore fair te assume it hibernated being an adult. Cantharis decipiens is a very common species all over Europe. The brown colour and the typical shape of the black spot on the neck shield are characteristic. It is a rather small species too, usually measuring 7 tot 9 mm. The adults appear as soon as the Hawthorn starts flowering. Later on the move to various other plants.
